Everyone and their friend of a friend has a “what to do in Athens this month” list. We get it. There's a lot going on. And we made one too, because, we wanted to! This is where all the fun is.
However, we want to believe that ours isn’t just another roundup. It’s a handpicked with care mix shaped by who we are: lifelong Athenians, people who love it here, and spend way too much time figuring out where the best gig, art show, or random little pop-up is. We’ve debated openings over overpriced wine. We’ve sent way too many group texts. We know what’s good. But first and foremost, we know what you should be wearing when you’ll get there.
You don’t need to go to everything. But you’ll want to go to something.
Subset Festival ⊆
4-8 of June at Athens Conservatoire
Subset Festival is a dynamic music platform presented by the Athens Epidaurus Festival in co-production with the Athens Conservatoire. Returning with renewed energy, the festival continues to center its mission on fostering dialogue between contemporary music and new media. Its name, 'Subset' (⊆), is inspired by the mathematical term (you know we love that!), reflecting its focus on curated intersections within the broader cultural landscape.

Dimitris Kamarotos A Time Ratio
In A Time Ratio, composer Dimitris Kamarotos proposes a work that unfolds in two spaces and forms, based on Yiorgos Veltsos texts Sketch for Electra and Sketch for Phaedra, respectively.
5th of June
Lyra Pramuk
Devotional music, at its core, embodies the deep-seated human urge to express our innermost, primal emotions. For Lyra Pramuk, devotion is ingrained in her futurist folk music, which harnesses the power and giddiness of technology to present the human voice as an object of limitless possibility.
BLIP Chimeras
BLIP propose a space for sonic play, open to diverse ideas and sound-generating media. This hybrid, spatial, and site-specific sound piece incorporates found objects, percussion, acoustic phenomena, self-devised circuits, and light, while further welcoming natural, amplified, and electronic sounds that interact, coalescing into an electroacoustic musical amalgamation.

Christina Vantzou The reintegration of the ear
With Oliver Coates, Irene Kurka, John Also Bennett
The Reintegration of the Ear is a suite of electronic and acoustic sound sources that coexist with natural environments, both terrestrial and subaquatic. Comprising hydrophone recordings from Sifnos, field recordings from Lesvos, ARP synthesizer tones, and mist-like orchestrals, the piece undulates and unfolds with an acute awareness of space.

Ryoji Ikeda
Ryoji Ikeda, Japan’s leading electronic composer and visual artist, focuses on the fundamental ingredients of sound and the pure essence of visuals as light, employing both mathematical precision and aesthetic insights. Renowned as one of the few international artists working convincingly across both visual and sonic media, he elaborately orchestrates sound, visuals, materials, physical phenomena and mathematical concepts into immersive live performances and installations.

A new series of artistic room takeovers in Mona’s suites, re-envisioned through the eyes of two contemporary artists.
Analogue photographer Elise Wouters and sculptress Angeliki Stamatakou have lived, dreamt, and reshaped Mona’s spaces, weaving memory, intimacy, and metamorphosis into their fabric.
We had the utmost pleasure to collaborate with Angeliki for our Cuzco S/S’24 collection.

“Aquatica” Group Show
4th of June at St. George Lycabettus
Set against an urban backdrop in the heart of Athens - a city encircled by the sea, interlaced with rivers, ancient Roman wells, and hidden waterways — Aquatica serves as a reminder that water, though often unseen, is always present. The exhibition features a diverse range of medium including painting, ceramics, photography and installation - each capturing the complex nature of water: from its playful, pleasurable aspects to its more enigmatic and haunting dimensions.
Whether on the surface of the Aegean or the rooftop pools of Athens, in subterranean aquifers or urban streams, the aquatic element surrounds us - even when we fail to notice it.

Valinia Svoronou’s practice navigates cultural and technological shifts in human history through both personal and collective perspectives. Informed by her upbringing in Athens within an immigrant family from Istanbul and Asia Minor, she explores the entangled histories of conflict and exchange between the East and the so-called West, and how these dynamics continue to shape contemporary identities and geopolitical realities. Her work reimagines historical narratives, creating space for understanding, reinterpretation, and the possibility of empowered futures.

Marlene Dumas: Cycladic Blues
5th of June - 2nd of November at Museum of Cycladic Art
Marlene Dumas has personally selected works from her oeuvre, and created new works, in direct response to the histories of figuration that she explored within the archaeological collections of the Museum of Cycladic Art. Moreover, in a rare occurrence, Dumas has also hand-selected a group of archaeological objects from the Museum’s collection that will feature in the exhibition.
