But let’s rewind. Because in order to make sense of what went down, you need context. Specifically: what even is an archival sale, and why is everyone so collectively obsessed with it?
In the world of 2plus1equals2, "archival" means anything not from the current S/S'25 Melbourne season — which is to say: pieces from past collections, capsule drops, rare samples, last-one-left items, or, better yet, designs that you cannot anymore find on our e-shop. They live exclusively in the physical space (the 2WO+1NE=2 showroom) and when you spot one, it feels like fate, but with exceptional tailoring and sustainable fabrics.
So last Saturday, we took that idea — the beauty of things that already exist — and we turned it into a day-to-night rooftop gathering for our beloved ones at our sanctuary, Shila. We called our favourite photographer-slash-friend Yiorgos Mavropoulos @blackbirdtales, who’s been with us since the very beginning of our creative journey, and curated a celebration of the campaigns we’ve made together. Basically, it was an ode to “the archive,” and it felt like opening a scrapbook with friends, low-key lighting and significantly more beer and good music.
We also made posters with those campaign images (designed by Marios Antonopoulos @Zero_Designs), and if you weren’t there — don’t worry — they’ll be up on the e-shop soon. We know you’ll ask.
And because just posters didn’t feel like quite enough, we also put together an open-air screening. Seeing the campaign images that way — big, out in the open, under the cloudy night sky — gave them a whole new kind of perspective.
Everyone had a specific role that day!
The 2 of us (Stella and Valisia, here) we ran point on public relations. We talked to basically everyone, tried to look as nonchalant as possible in photos, and somehow got more put together as the day went on. Not bad considering we started the morning mildly panicked about whether we’d get everything done before guests started arriving.
Well, as for me (Alexandra here), I was basically the soul of the party. I had the very important job of showcasing everything on the archival sale. ON ME. Constantly switching looks. A kind of human moodboard at that point.
Literally, I lost count around outfit number 6 or 7. At one point, I was wearing the Long-Nosed Potoroo dress — navy wool, heavy in the best way. Perfect for the night’s chilly temperature. You might also catch me in the Firewater dress on one of the Polaroids — silk, gold, super sleek, featherlight, the kind of thing that makes you feel like you’re wearing nothing.
And here’s Eva, our newest team member at 2WO+1NE=2, aka as Super Eva as she talked, explained, took care of everyone, run around, carried up and down and long story short she was the GOAT!
Just before closing, a big shoutout to Samba Coffee Roasters for keeping us caffeinated all day, and Noctua Beers for helping us wind down in the evening.
